Mike Jolly
Mike is a Romsey-based artist who has always had a keen interest in art in all its forms.
From an early age, his parents would regularly take him to art galleries and National Trust properties, which developed into a love of drawing. This resulted in starting his working life in an architect’s practice and eventually leading to a career in interior design.
He has been involved in set design and scenic painting for R.A.O.D.S. (Plaza Theatre) for a number of years, particularly enjoying the opportunity to work on a large scale on the backcloths and tumblers.
Following his retirement in 2017, Mike has enjoyed finally having the time to devote to his artwork. This has given him a chance to experiment with a wide variety of media and subject matter.
He particularly enjoys working in acrylics and oils, but also loves the random effects that can be achieved with watercolours. Mike currently feels that he has yet to develop a specific style, and this is the start of an exciting period of exploration, drawing inspiration from a great many sources.
